Dell D630 Latitude and 64Bit VT-X mode

Post by RadComTech »

I want to share a tip:
I recently tried VirtualBox (again) after a few years of Micro_oft and other VM's.
This Oracle VirtualBox can run smooth on a DELL 630 now 10 years old.
I used either Windows7 or Windows8.2 and discovered (as many other posters did) that 64BIT was missing.
By default, Dell switches (VT-x mode) off.

Getting it switched on/enabled is where Dr. Google sent me to the wrong places.

I recommend BIOS A19 now for any Dell D630 D830 and toughcase variants *with CORE2 DUO/Intel'.
Dell update is "D630_A19.EXE" from support download (2013 was the last one).
INSTALL a good battery. Plug in AC. Run "DELL_A19.EXE" as ADMIN.
~wait~ for the procedure, and there is ONE reboot with a really slow boot crawl. ~wait~.

Verify WINDOWS boot. SHUT DOWN.
Press F2 as she boots again, Go into BIOS Page for Viewing settings,
step down t0 the bottom of the (A19) BIOS page,
Dell adds VT-x Intel Virtualization Enable (default= disable). Set this ENABLE,
and on reboot, VirtualBox now displays 64bit. Done.

if this post is in the wring place, suggest the right forum.

WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE
DELL D630 formerly with BIOS A9 (I forgot)

-> the other suggestions including Client Configuration Utility ToolKit are *useless*

Thanks for the feedback, but this is a Dell issue rather than a VirtualBox issue. Still someone might find it useful... ;)
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
