SurfaceBook with multiple Monitors

Post by Mudoch »

I have a Surfacebook, win 10 and 2 Docking stations with 2 external monitors each. One dock is at the office the other at home. Everything works except 2 items:

In both cases windows sees the monitors 1, 2, 3. 1 being the surfacebook monitor. But VBox sees 1,2,3 at home and at office sees 1,3,2 so I must change the view when switching locations.

The second issue has to do with the Input Mouse integration, Yes I run the Extensions in the guests which are all Windows 7 either professional or Ultimate. The 2 most recent Guests are win 10. In order to get textboxes editor windows etc to show cursor I must enable this setting and then use hot key to jump to other monitors. This is really annoying as it slows down production.

Anyone with ideas, besides uninstalling Extensions which I've done more than once. My current Vbox version is 5.2.6 r120293 (Qt5.6.2) These issues have existed in every version of VBox I've used on the SurfaceBook since I purchased it back in Oct. I started with v5.1.x which at the time was the version I ran on my previous Laptop.

That's going to be difficult to replicate, no?
  • 98% of the users don't have docking stations
    • 98% of those users don't have two docking stations
      • 98% of those users don't have dual external monitors.
That's 0.0008%, which pretty much leaves you alone... ;)

Have you tried to actually move/swap your monitors? Physically I mean. Or look at what makes the configuration different? Maybe the resolutions? Maybe office2 is closer to home3? And I assume you are running the guest(s) full screen, correct?

I believe you mean the Guest Additions, not the Extension Pack. The former is for the Guest (hence the name), the ExtPack is for the host.

I'm not sure what that means, can you expand on it? But I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the multiple monitors issue that you have in your title...

I'll try and keep it simple so I numbered your post 1..4

1) Yeah I'm the guy with too much work and not enough space.

2) First action yes physically move and also reconnected in the order I want found. Laptop is on left the other screens are to the right. In Windows they all identify as 1,2,3 starting from the left. Pretty sure it has to do with Enumeration of devices and such. Yes full screen.

3) yep that what I meant.

4) When work is open the edit area for Text, or in Visual Studio the place I edit the code. Etc. When I hover over the other areas the pointer is seen just fine. It's just the places I need to enter data that don't show the pointer or the I-Beam. It's ok to a point for single line textBoxes but for the multi-liners it's a pain. I turn on the Mouse Integration and I can function but changing windows is where it gets old.

I've recently had to replace my surfbook and now my main rig is a dell xps15. Same basic issues with mouse integration in guest OS. But also something new. I posted this issue independently. SO no longer need to deal with monitor sequences.
