Using USB Stick in Virtualbox with Windows 7 Host

Post by Gerti »

Hello all,

for several months I have now been struggling with this and have not been able to find a solution to it. I am having a Windows 7 64Bit Host System and running Ubuntu 16 on VirtualbBox with ExtensionPackage 5.1.4. I am trying to use an USB Stick (USB 2.0) or external Disc to save Data from my Guest System. However I cannot manage to use them in Ubuntu, even though Ubuntu does recognize my mouse and keyboard. The problem is that it doesnt even find any USB Sticks in the USB controller panel (in the starting screen of virtual box where I can pick the virtual machine that I want to start). Have you experienced the same problem as well? And do you can think of any solutions?

Cheers,
Gerti

Please read the following thread: USB basics and troubleshooting, all of the posts.

If you still have a problem after reading through the whole thing, please follow the advice of the last post, #8: Asking for help and post the information requested.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
