To have the printer only in the VM would be to try to access the parallel port in the VM, which has given your VM trouble.

It is better to let the host run the printer and share it over the network. Don't delete the printer off the host, or the host will not be able to share the printer to the VM.

One other option is to get a USB to parallel printer port adapter, then try a Virtualbox USB Filter to pass the adapter into the VM. The adapter would make the VM own the adapter's parallel port while the VM is running. I have not tested this to see if it works.

Wie bekomme ich die Online.

The printers apparently used to work, and in some fashion, while trying to fix the VM issue, you apparently broke the connection to these other printers.

We would probably not be able to say what went wrong there, since we weren't watching what you were trying. If you turn off the VM, then the host should be able to connect to the network printer in the normal way.

You will have to describe exactly each step you took to get the printer into the VM in order for us to say what may have gone wrong.

Normally, a network printer can be connected to from many different other computers, physical or VM.

Hallo an Alle,

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello to all,
Got me a parallel printer cable to USB, now I can access the printer via VM.

As for the network printers, we still have software installed in the VM for the network printers, I uninstalled it, quit the VM and restarted the PC.
Now all network printers on the host are functional.

I thank all helpers, especially "scottgus", many many thanks.
Do I owe you scottgus1 anything?

Hallo

A USB device can only be used by one computer at a time. USB cannot be shared. So since you are passing the parallel-port printer to the VM though a USB adapter, only the VM can see that adapter, and only the VM can use the parallel-port printer attached to the adapter.

If you want both the host OS and the VM to use the printer, then the printer must be attached to the host OS not the VM, and the host OS would share the printer out onto the network. Then the VM can pick up the shared printer over the network. Then both host and VM could use the printer.

Host = Win10 Prof, Gast = WinXP Prof.

PS C:\Users\andre> Get-SmbConnection
Get-SmbConnection : Zugriff verweigert
In Zeile:1 Zeichen:1
+ Get-SmbConnection
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ CategoryInfo : PermissionDenied: (MSFT_SMBConnection:ROOT/Microsoft/...T_SMBConnection) [Get-SmbConnection], CimException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : Windows System Error 5,Get-SmbConnection
PS C:\Users\andre>

Ok, I'll try and summarize (for the English speaking readers): There are 4 printers involved:

1 printer is connected via a parallel-2-USB adapter to the host, connected via USB filter to the Windows XP VM and works as requested.

1 printer is connected to the parallel port LPT1 of the host and also works as requested.

2 printers (incl. scanner function) exist in the local network, together with the host and the guest. The host can use the scanner function, but not the printer function, when the Windows XP VM is running. When the VM is not running, the host can use the printer function. The cause for this is still unknown ...

PS: In the VM configuration, you provided two serial ports (COM1, COM2) to the guest. What role do they play here?

Hallo

Was bedeutet das? Was hast Du alles versucht?

Hallo,
