Upgrading host, compatibilty problems ?

Post by Magoth78 »

Hello there,

I've actually WinXP SP2 32b on a raid 0 disk as host.
On a secondary disk (not in raid) I have 3 VMs installed: Ubuntu, and 2 Windows XP sp2 32b.

I'm going to upgrade my host from WXP to Vista 64b.

My question is Once I will have installed VirtualBox for Vista 64b, will I be able to use my guests that have being installed with Virtualbox 32b ?

thanks by advance,
mag

Same Host, same CPU? Then no problems to be expected.

If another CPU, probalbly XP Guest must be activated again.

Thanks for the response,

Yes I've forgot something important. Le CPU and the GFX will be upgraded also (c2d 6300 -> q6600 and 8800gtx -> 4870x2)

The host will have vista64b instead of the actual winxp 32b.

Graphic and other equipment from the host doesnt matter because of the emulation of the hardware.

But Guest see the CPU, and so there is probably a new activation needed.

Many thank for yours answers.

I'm not sure to see what you mean by "guest activation" ?

I mean the activation from xp guests (input serial number, activate xp with this sn).

Hello there,

As said, I've upgraded my host from XP32b to Vista64b with a new proc (e6300->q6600). I've installed virtualbox 64b and launched my old xp32b guests but I have blue screens when they load up.

Any idea?
thanks by advance
