No internet connection on Virtualbox after upgrading to Virtualbox 5.2.0. Downgrading doesn't help.

I upgraded VirtualBox 4.3.6 to 5.2.0 r118431 (Qt5.6.2) on Windows 7 SP1 x64 Ultimate. After the upgrade, the network stopped working for all my virtual machines (Windows 7 and Kubuntu 16.04). What could be the issue?

I unsuccessfully tried the following actions:
  • Downgrading to 5.1.30 or 4.3.6 (each time installing the corresponding extension pack)
  • Reinstalling VirtualBox and resetting all VirtualBox preferences (by removing the hidden ‘.VirtualBox’ directory in my user profile directory) didn't help either.
  • Disabling firewall and antivirus
The network works fine with VMware Workstation Pro 14.0.0.
