[Solved] XP Opening .vbox for reading failure

Post by alcorn »

Hello,
I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit and I installed Vbox 5.1.30 running XP Pro 32 bit.
I use this to run Autocad R14 as well as some old DOS programs.

Everything was running fine yesterday, but now I get the opening error shown below:

Runtime error opening 'C:\Users\Michael\VirtualBox VMs\Mike XP\Mike XP.vbox' for reading: -102(File not found.).
F:\tinderbox\win-5.1\src\VBox\Main\src-server\MachineImpl.cpp[745] (long __cdecl Machine::i_registeredInit(void)).
Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:
MachineWrap
Interface:
IMachine {b2547866-a0a1-4391-8b86-6952d82efaa0}

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Michael

Hello,
For anyone who is interested, I found the solution.

1. Close virtualbox completely.
2. Do a search in Explorer for "*.vbox-prev"
3. Rename this file to "*.vbox"
4. Restart virtualbox .

Great! You were able to solve this on your own, on your first two posts... ;)
But, a small advice for future readers; you didn't have to "search" for the .vbox-prev file, you should have gone straight to the path in the error message ('C:\Users\Michael\VirtualBox VMs\Mike XP\').
