A critical error has occured while running the virutal machine

Post by GP »

Hi,

I need some help with this error on a clients computer.

When trying to start the virtual machine i get the message: A critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine and the machine execution has been stopped.

The host is is Windows 8 and the Virtual machine is xp.

I have attached the log and png file.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I believe this means that something else either is or has been using VT-x, and hasn't restored the CPU state properly. That would be another VM platform, or perhaps antivirus.

If the VM has a saved state then I would discard it, just in case this is due to changing hosts.

I checked the saved state and there was none.

I turned of the AV and still got an error message.

I think you are correct as the error message now says TV-x Setup Failed.

There is not other virtual software on the machine so I am not sure what could be causing it.

Any suggestions?

I believe that Avast started using hardware acceleration for scanning purposes. I think that there is an option which disables that feature.
