I'm new to VirtualBox and only somewhat familiar with VMs in general.
I have a VM Guest that I'm unable to RDP to.
Host: Dell XPS 8700 running Win 7 Pro 64bit with VirtualBox 5.1.26.
Guest: Win 10 Education 64bit. Network is bridged to host NIC with promiscuous = all. Remote display is off.
Guest has proper DHCP supplied IP which is unique from Host IP. I can ping to Host IP from Guest and vice versa. I can also ping to a device on the enterprise LAN from the Guest and access internet (i.e. Google). I can not ping to the Guest IP or establish RDP.
Clearly I'm missing something. Can anyone point me in a possible direction, please?
Thank you.

So, which one is it, you can or you cannot ping the Guest?MarkWyler wrote:I can not ping to the Guest IP
And I assume you want to use the Guest's own RDP server and not the one from VirtualBox, right?

Re: Remote Access to Guest VM
I'm able to ping to the Guest IP Address from the Host but I am unable to ping to it from another device on the same enterprise LAN subnet.
So the host can ping to the guest and to another device on the subnet. The guest can ping to the host and another device on the subnet. The other device on the subnet can ping to the host but NOT to the guest.
I hope that clarifies. Thank you for responding.

Re: Remote Access to Guest VM
Please post the complete IP configurations for your host, your guest and your other device. For your host/guest, since they're both Windows, that would be the output of the command "ipconfig /all" in a Command Prompt. I don't know what your other device is, but if it's Windows, that would be the same process. Bonus if you paste it as text and not as a pic.

Re: Remote Access to Guest VM
As far as RDP server... I'm neutral on that. But I'm guessing that I need to address the ping issue first. If I can't see the VM I'm never going to be able to RDP to it... right?

Re: Remote Access to Guest VM
I haven't looked yet at your IP configuration (will do), but no, you do not need a networked client to RDP to it. Your client could have no network at all in fact. What you do is you enable Remote Display for the VM, and then you RDP to the host. All set

Re: Remote Access to Guest VM
Resolved: Two things going on here. The issue with pinging appears to be related to my personal workstation. I went to a different workstation on the subnet to test and was able to ping successfully. Should have thought of that earlier.
The Guest VM that I couldn't Remote into had firewalls turned on. They're off and remoting now works as expected. Should have thought of that as well.
Thank you for your responsiveness.
