USB device ia busy and it doesn't work with any already given solution

Post by pepe_gotera »

Hello,

I have an Ubuntu 64 bits guest and I cannot use any connected device (external drive). It always says it is busy. The error is "e_invalidarg".

I have tried this:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=39104#p176270

And this:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=81993#p386477

No way either.

Any idea?

Thanks and regards.

Please read the following thread: USB basics and troubleshooting, all of the posts. If you still have a problem after reading through the whole thing, please follow the advice of the last post.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.

Patience is a virtue...
Now, the Toshiba hard drive claims to be a USB3 device. Does your Ubuntu 14.04 based distro support USB3? Can you try the same with your other hard drive, the Passport? Did you follow all the steps from the Troubleshooting section?
  • Follow a "start the VM from cold-boot" / "insert the USB device" / "wait for 2 min" / "shutdown the VM" cycle.
  • With the VM shut down completely (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form).
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
