Lost VM Overnight
Ok, I've been fighting this all day. Tried everything I could find on the web and nothing has worked. Here is the senario, running Oracle Virtual Box version 5.1.22. on a Windows 10 host that was upgraded from Windows 7 some 2 weeks ago. I left my VM running overnight and when I woke up it had a message next to the VM name that it was unaccessible. I deleted it from the list in Virtualbox thinking I would just add it back. NOPE! Bad idea! Now I can see the vdi file in the vm folder along with a log folder along with a tmp and prev file using explorer but can't see it through add or manage in virtualbox. It was not listed in the XML in .vbox folder so I gave it a new uuid number through command and added the line to the xml file hoping that would work but NOPE again. Any other ideas on how to get my VM back up and running would be extremely helpful.

Re: Lost VM Overnight
Open Command Prompt. Change to the VM directory. Post the output of the command:
dir /s

Re: Lost VM Overnight
Ooops sorry here is the one with the switch. The AmazonResales VM's are the one's I can see any longer, all the others I can still see and start.

Re: Lost VM Overnight
"Post the output" doesn't mean "post the screen capture of the output". 1) The images are illegible, 2) they are larger compared to the text, and 3) they are not searchable.
Please edit the two posts, delete the images and replace them with the actual text. You copy the text from Command Prompt and you paste it in your post. Include them in the {Code} tag if you can, and please make a new post so that we get notified. Thanks...

I'm not sure what you mean by code but I ran the dir /s from the virtualbox vms folder and this is the result. I deleted the images as you requested.

Do you see the different buttons at the top? "B" for bold, "I" for italic, etc? Well you enclose the information in the "Code" tag, so that it looks like the computer output (taking into account the spaces), just like "mpack" did for you after editing your messagepelican418 wrote:I'm not sure what you mean by code
Now, I guess that the VM you're talking about is the "AmazonResalesWin7X86" one. I don't know why you'd think that changing UUIDs would help your situation, but it most certainly didn't.
Do you see that file "C:\Users\Roger\VirtualBox VMs\AmazonResalesWin7X86\AmazonResalesWin7X86.vbox-tmp"? Copy that and change the new file's extension to "AmazonResalesWin7X86.vbox". Double-click on that file to register it with VirtualBox. Hopefully you haven't really messed up your VirtualBox.xml.

I did the copy and rename. It now sees it but I get the following error when trying to start the vm:

Re: Lost VM Overnight
The 'C:\Users\Roger\.VirtualBox\VirtualBox.xml' reference was a red herring, there's nothing actually stored there, it simply references a file that's using that UUID. So, leave that alone.
Open a Command Prompt. Navigate to the VirtualBox installation directory, usually "C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox". Issue the command:
Now, you have two options:

VBoxManage showmediuminfo "C:\Users\Roger\VirtualBox VMs\AmazonResalesWin7X86\AmazonResalesWin7X86.vdi"

Now, you have two options:
- With the VM shutdown, go to the Media Manager, release "AmazonResalesWin7X86.vdi" from your VM, remove it (without deleting it), and then go to the VM settings and add the same VDI to the VM, or
- Quit VirtualBox (and all VB*, Virtual*, VM* processes from the Task Manager), and edit "C:\Users\Roger\VirtualBox VMs\AmazonResalesWin7X86\AmazonResalesWin7X86.vbox" and replace the value "{c42c8739-05bd-45a6-ae64-406e354f26ef}" with "{4e8c0d8f-ab22-45a2-884d-968ff6482be2}". There are two instances that you need to replace.

I see that we need to take it one step at a time. Post the complete output of the command (including the command itself):
