Hello,
I try to run Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Standard guest on my Windows 10 Home host. However, guest OS freezes shortly after it had been started - just few moments after logon sequence is finished.
I shall add, its a fresh installation of guest OS, without Guest Addition installed.
I am using 5.1.14 r112924 (Qt5.6.2).
I'd appreciate any help regarding this topic.

Re: Windows Server 2008 freezes on Win10
The hardening log ends with no error and the vbox log seems to run placidly until 2:57 when the user requests a power-down, as in pull-the-plug-style. I see you have some 4.6GB available memory at the time of running, whereas the guest seems to be set to just 1 GB. I think Server-style OS's would like some more room to breathe. Can you give the guest OS 2GB at least, see what happens?
Re: Windows Server 2008 freezes on Win10
scotgus1, thank you for your input.
Unfrotunately, it still freezes, after increasing RAM to 2gb and video to 128mb.
I've attached two more logs with new configuration - first i let it run for 9 min after it freezed at around 1:30, second i pulled the plug immediately after.
ps. For what it's wortht, i've also tried to host W2k12 and W7 guests, with no problem what so ever.

Re: Windows Server 2008 freezes on Win10
Since it's reported to freeze during log-on, it sounds like install completed successfully.
The name of the ISO looks unusual to me, comparing with things Microsoft calls its discs. Did you get it from Microsoft? I wonder if it has errors. You could try an evaluation ISO of Server 2008 and see if that boots and logs on. Just to see if it's Virtualbox, or the ISO you have.

Re: Windows Server 2008 freezes on Win10
I got this strange-named iso from my university Spark.
I downloaded and re-installed (new install) guest from Microsoft provided image - same effect - it froze durig first logon at "preparing your desktop".
I've attached log, last entries at freeze are:
00:06:23.481253 Display::handleDisplayResize: uScreenId=0 pvVRAM=0000000009e90000 w=800 h=600 bpp=32 cbLine=0xC80 flags=0x1

Re: Windows Server 2008 freezes on Win10
I'll repeat what scottgus1 already said: your logs look just fine. Let it run for an hour and see if sending an Alt-Ctrl-Del, or a soft-reboot (HostKey-R) changes things. Maybe it's just Windows that actually tries to initialize your desktop.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Re: Windows Server 2008 freezes on Win10
Hi, I have something similar. But host system is WIN 7. Guest is Windows Server2008 R2. Tried many different settings for RAM, network, USB always with the same result.
When started in safe mode there are no problems and the desktop is displayed.
