Win7 host WinXP Guest keyboard and mouse not working

Post by pfletch »

Hi, I have loaded Virtual Box on a Windows 7 64 bit machine and am trying to connect to a guest Windows XP vhd file. I am able to start the XP virtual machine, but the mouse or keyboard will not work. The keyboard will work during boot, I can get to safe mode, but after windows loads keyboard and mouse wont do anything. Both the keyboard and mouse are USB

Do you have any USB filters enabled in the VM settings? If so, especially if it is a blank one (with no values), delete them.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

I have disabled the USB filters, still the same issue, no keyboard or mouse.

  • Where did you get that file from?
  • Did it come from another virtualization product?
  • Did it have custom virtualization extensions?
  • Did you remove them before using the VHD?
  • How did you build the VM around the VHD?

Sorry for the delay, I got pulled of on another project. This VHD was created using Microsoft's Virtual PC 2007. It looks like it does have Virtual Machine Additions installed. I will try and remove them and use that VHD file with virtual box.
