Unable to start VM VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80bb0005) SessionMachine VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED

Post by iyakov »

Hello!
Could you please help me to figure out what causes my VM failing? It worked fine a month ago but now it's not.
I've tried to run it on Windows 7 and Windows 10. No success. All logs are attached.

Thanks in advance!

First, I deleted some chunks from the VBox.log that you had in your post. Snippets of the log on their own, not only don't help, but can be distracting. It's best to have the whole picture. For future reference, please ZIP them, like you did with the VBoxHardening.log.

Now,
VirtualBox VM 5.1.15 r112959 win.amd64 (Jan 19 2017 06:35:24) release log
...
00:00:02.037959 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 5.1.13 r112787; VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP)
...
00:00:08.656341 VMMDev: Guest Additions information report: Version 5.1.7 r111213 '5.1.7'
Any particular reason that you're using the TestBuilds instead of the normal releases? And not even the same versions?

I would uninstall VirtualBox and its components, install the official, released, latest version and go from there. And wait for more than 10 sec before shutting down the VM, because it seems that you asked the VM to shut down, it didn't abort.
00:00:13.772092 VMMDev: Guest requests the VM to be turned off
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Taken together, these observations could indicate an evaluation period whose time has passed. A Windows which shuts itself down due to 30 days of non-activation ISTR leaves that "guest requests" indication in the log.

Wait a minute... WinXP DOES that? Just shut down? Not loss of networking, customization, application installing/running, nag messages? Just simply refuse to boot? I thought that you couldn't install XP at all without the activation key. I don't remember that 30-day activation period before Win7 (well maybe Vista, but I don't want to remember that; it's painful).

I don't know for sure because I've never had a Windows install I couldn't activate, but yes - if you ignore all the warnings over the 30 days then, exactly that. It might still boot in safe mode. Yes the period for XP was 30 days, at least in retail versions IIRC. Plus there are the various explorer evaluation versions that people download.

I've reinstalled all the latest versions and got the same result. (logs are attached)
Everything happens so fast! The windows logo actually appears! So.. the reason may be in the license.
In fact, I was able to boot from CD and start windows recovery process...

? There shouldn't be any reason for doubt. Surely you must know if that WindowsXP is a bona fide licensed and activated copy? As opposed to an expired trial.

I have no doubt, I've installed a licensed MSDN copy with a key... It was fine for a year.. So it must be activated.

After Windows recovery I've got a black screen and white arrow\pointer. Nothing happens. Logs look similar...
So.. It's not a VM problem, right? Should I give up and try to make a clean OS installation?

Sure. One log is from work PC, another one is from home PC when I copied it to the flash drive. In any case I don't know why it cannot recognize File system. This particular files are 100% working. I've reinstalled OS on the new drive (4th), attach 3 others and it works!

What's the error that you're having? Exactly and fully please. Because if it's the same error that you had before, we can continue the discussion in your other thread.

If it is not the same error as previously, and since VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR is really specific and not a generic error, I'd rather you open a new thread.
