[Solved] This Device cannot start. (code10) TpLink Archer T4u
Hi,
im in trouble. I'm searching the way to make it work this wifi usb adapter: TP-LINK Archer T4U (TP-Link Ac1200 Wireless Dual Band)
on a guest windows 7 x32 machine. On host windows 10 all work properly.
I already assigned usb filter for guest, and i installed manually the specific driver for 8812au realtek chipset.
But it continue gives me "This Device cannot start. (code 10)".
I'm 90% sure that this is a compatibility problem of virtualbox, which cant manage these type of pheripherals.
Any ideas?
thanks

What information did you draw on to come to a 90% certain conclusion?
Code 10 means that the OS can see the device, but it needs drivers which you didn't install. If you want the guest to manage a USB device you need to install device specific drivers in that guest, not (or not only) in the host.

To add to what mpack said, the guest couldn't care less if there are drivers for the device or not.
I have a USB oscilloscope that does not have drivers for my Mac, yet it works just fine on my WinXP and Win7 guests.

i installed driver 10 times, even manually from list and same error every time, so it isnt a problem of driver i think.

I repeat, code 10 almost always means a USB device with no driver.

A Virtual Machine has no use for drivers for your motherboard.chino2012 wrote:maybe i must install chipset driver for mobo(that have usb driver) on guest too?
Is it a USB3 device in a USB3 port? If so then installing xHCI (USB3) drivers might well have made the difference, as Win7 has no USB3 support. Win10 does.
Re: This Device cannot start. (code10) TpLink Archer T4u
yes it is in a usb3 port. i tryed already installing usb3 driver for my mobo but doesnt changed.
now i resolved only installing win 10.

Re: This Device cannot start. (code10) TpLink Archer T4u
You keep talking about your "mobo" - which is not relevant to a VIRTUAL machine, as I already mentioned. I have no idea what chipset your motherboard uses, but the VM requires xHCI drivers to be installed inside the guest OS, if USB3 is enabled, and if the guest doesn't have native support for xHCI. Win7 doesn't.
If you need to continue this conversation then it's probably time to provide a VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.
