Upgrading W7 to W10: uninstall VB first??

Post by SmithyD »

Initial attempt (6 months ago) at upgrading from W7 to W10 resulted in total PC freeze a few minutes into each restart. So I downgraded again. Now need to have another go. VB version is 5.0.24 r108355. Anyone know if it's now likely to be safer to upgrade without first uninstalling VB? Any advice?

I have upgraded while forgetting to uninstall Virtualbox twice and have had no troubles. I just uninstalled and reinstalled after the update. All guests came back fine (except for one glitch where host-only networking wouldn't work, turns out the 5.0.10 installer had not checked a Virtualbox binding on the network card - manual checking the binding resolved the problem).

Thanks for that! Of course, I don't know for certain that it was VB that caused the freeze - it just seemed like one of the more likely candidates - but it's good to know that it should be OK to go ahead with the Windows upgrade.
