Windows Phone emulator on guest

Post by Mehmet K. »

Hello,

I use:
Host: Windows 10 64 bit (16 GB RAM, just clean formatted)
Virtualbox: 5.0.20 (just installed after host-windows format)
Guest: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (new formatted machine) , 5 GB RAM, 4 processors

I installed on guest Visual Studio 2015. I open the Hyper-v Manager on guest and I increase the CPU count of Windows Phone emulator. But I can not open Windows Phone emulator. It gives "one of the hyper-v components is not running" error.

Guest-host-virtualbox is just installed. So everything (settings, options...) are default. I did not changed or installed anything yet. As default options are:

- windows guest --> add/remove feature --> hyper-v are enabled.
- virtualbox settings --> system --> acceleration --> "hyper-v" is selected ("default" was selected. I changed it as "hyper-v") & vt-x is enabled & nested paging is enabled

Notes:
* Windows phone emulator need Hyper-v feature. Hyper-v is supporting by Virtual 5. But Why nobody closed this ticket: virtualbox --> ticket --> 4032 (I can not send link yet on forums).
* Windows phone emulator need Support of Second Level Address Translation (SLAT). I read this from here: h t t p : / / d o c s . a p p c e l e r a t o r . c o m / platform/latest/#!/guide/Installing_the_Windows_Phone_SDK

I will be happy if you can help me.

Thanks in advance

I don't think you can use Hyper-V inside of a VM.

As has been said, you can't use Hyper-v inside a VirtualBox VM. What you can do inside a VMWare VM is not the focus of these forums.

Hi,

towo2099 writes that about VM not VirtualBox VM :)

I am not good about VM's. Can you please tell me what is the "Hyper-v" feature which come with 5th version of VBox: h t t p s : / / b l o g s . o r a c l e . c o m /virtualization/entry/oracle_vm_virtualbox_5_07

Thanks in advance

Since this is the vbox-forum, why should i specify the virtualizer?

Maybe you inform me generally about VM s.

As I write it before, I see the update from oracle blog abput hyper-v. And I try it. I am not 100% sure if really will work or not. :/

Thank you

VirtualBox has the ability to provide a Hyper-v compatible API to guest OS's which are Hyper-v aware (i.e. pro Windows editions). In some cases this may mean that you don't have to install Guest Additions. VirtualBox can also provide a KVM API to KVM-aware guests (i.e. Linux).

This feature is NOT about VirtualBox making any host OS Hyper-v or KVM ability visible to the guest. It is also not about allowing nested virtualization (which in any case would require VT-x or AMD-v hardware support, not a software API such as Hyper-v).

So that means it is impossible for now to use windows phone emulator on guest :(

Thanks for your interest.

There's no one to help you with a feature that does not exist yet. It's not a matter of wrong settings. It cannot work. Period.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Not yet with VirtualBox.
Nested virtualization is not a priority to the people that are paying the contracts for support, I guess.
