You need to update first.
Actually I read it again after the posting and then noticed the first sentence. Decided to delete the post, but could see the log already was downloaded :?

Anyway, upgraded to last Virtualbox version, changed USB setting to USB-3 and added the magic key, found a corresponding driver at Dell and installed it at the XP guest without any problem.

Have done some test, and am very impressed with the speed, which is only a 10% decrease compared to the native USB-2 and 3 speed.

The only minor problem is when the magic key has been added, where the guest fails to start if USB setting is USB-2.

Verdict: Finally it is possible to use USB in Virtualbox without a degrade in speed - thank you very much.

The magic link viewtopic.php?f=15&t=74575
Link to the Renesas driver at Dell, select the download file Renesas_Chipset_USB3-201_A00_GVT5M_SETUP_ZPE.exe - here
Tested on Intel chipset Z97, Windows 8.1 64-bit host and XP 32-bit guest.
-----
I have made a bat file to easily add the magic key -to remove the magic key again, remove the "uPD720201" from the command line.

Ha, I downloaded the log file too fast.

I'm glad to hear it's working for you now. Yes, the magic key has the unfortunate side effect that it prevents easy reconfiguration, but hopefully that shouldn't be necessary :)

There are other Renesas driver packages but the one from Dell should work fine. I think they only add an installer wrapper but do not modify the drivers themselves.

Easiest way is to download it directly at the quest, and then run the install program from there.

Hello,
I have the same remarks on VB 6.1.8
Flashing a 8GB USB key through Balena Etcher on W10 takes 10mn.
Doing the same with ddrescue on Ubuntu 18 VM takes 60 mn.
