Anyway, upgraded to last Virtualbox version, changed USB setting to USB-3 and added the magic key, found a corresponding driver at Dell and installed it at the XP guest without any problem.
Have done some test, and am very impressed with the speed, which is only a 10% decrease compared to the native USB-2 and 3 speed.
The only minor problem is when the magic key has been added, where the guest fails to start if USB setting is USB-2.
Verdict: Finally it is possible to use USB in Virtualbox without a degrade in speed - thank you very much.

Tested on Intel chipset Z97, Windows 8.1 64-bit host and XP 32-bit guest.

I have made a bat file to easily add the magic key -to remove the magic key again, remove the "uPD720201" from the command line.
