Unable to bridge Connections on A vista 64bit host

Post by Treborprime »

Good day all,

Ok I have been trying in vain to get a working networking connection with a XP SP2 32 bit guest. NAT did not work at all. So I tried host interfaces. I created a virtual adapter and then tried to bridge it with my my main connection. Bridge connections option remains greyed out and is not clickable.

I have made the Virtual adapter set to the private network setting as well

Anyone know what might be causing this ?

Thanks

Bridging

Post by ralphosle »

Creating a bridge between host and guest is known issue, hope it gets fixed by next version. :D

The only way I got it to work is as follows.
1)When creating an adapter for guest make sure to select Intel Pro desktop or server. The amd compatible nic well they are broke.
2)After creating the bridge assign a static ip address in subnet of the host.
3)Start guest and also set the adapter with static ip.

example: Host = 192.168.1.5
Bridge = 192.168.1.6
guest = 192.168.1.7

Dns same as the host.

Good Luck !!! :wink:

Check if you have a working Internet Connection Sharing. If you do, then share your NIC that gives you internet to the virtual interface and see if that works. The HIF should have an IP address of 192.168.0.1 (the vbox interface). In the Guest, you should get a DHCP address in the same range, with 192.168.0.1 as gateway and DNS.

Note:
I haven't tested this, as I don't have Vista and the ICS on my XP machine is broken, don't know why. I don't use Windows anymore on my laptop (that has a working ICS). It should work in theory.
