Help "(VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY)"

Post by CptBBQ »

I created a working virtual hard-drive and when i used it for my VM and ran it it came up with this error.

"Failed to open a session for the virtual machine
Failed to open image 'C:\Virtual Harddrive of life.vhd' for writing due to wrong permissions (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

Failed to attach driver below us! Image is read-only. (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

PIIX3 cannot attach drive to the Primary Master (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6}"

I know this has been asked before but when browsing the forums i couldn't find a solution to it. (maybe i haven't searched deep enough i don't know)
Thanks! :D

I would try, first off, moving the vhd into a different folder than the c: drive root. Strange permissions are in control on the c: root. Really, the best place for the virtual drive is in the folder with the guest's .vbox file.

Move? I can't move it from the root. (computer)

It has a little red circle with the cross between it which means that you can't move it, or at least that's what i think it means.

You wouldn't by any chance have another running guest using it, perhaps in a guest started as a service? (I'm thinking it's a service because of the "system" user.)

Or perhaps the VHD has been mounted in the host.
