Host: Win 7 Home Premium 32bit SP1
Guest: Win XP
Antivirus: Avira Free Antivirus, 15.0.9.504
Firewall: windows
Hardware: AMD Llano APU A6-3500 | Radeon HD6530D | ASUS F1A75-V Pro | 4 GB RAM

VM fails to start with VBox 4.3.26 with following error:

Code: Select all

Error -104 in supR3HardenedWinReSpawn! (enmWhat=5)
VBox 4.3.12 works fine.

I cannot definitely say when this occurred the first time, but I think until mid of February VirtualBox was working fine. Therefore I assume it's related to a newer version of Avira Free Antivirus.

Greetings,

I have problems to start Vbox, when I want to initialize my virtual machine, it shows me this message: "The virtual machine 'Centos7' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1).
I'm attaching the screenshot and the log.

My laptop specs are:
Laptop Samsung Sensx65
Windows 7 - 32 bits
Processor: Core2duo 2.2.Ghz
Memory: 4 GB
Antivirus: Avira Free Antivirus
Firewall: Windows

I hope that you can help me with this problem because I want to use Vbox to learn more.
Thanks

VM don't start.

1) Windows 7 ultimate ru x64
3) No host anti-virus, firewalls, protection software, and debugging programs etc which might be relevant.

"Unknown compression method". It might be better to stick to the widely portable zip archive method for attachments.

Oh, right. So it's the Windows Update corrupted certificates db issue (yet) again. Which is odd, as that was only supposed to affect Win7 32bit hosts. But, I don't know how to verify the bittedness of the host from these startup logs. Apparantly the module name "kernel32" is used regardless. Likewise the OS version (6.1) is the same.

So, how to fix this? In 5.0 beta 2 the same error.

This problem is on the host, not VirtualBox. VirtualBox merely reports it.

To explain: VirtualBox since 4.3.14 has introduced so called "hardening" features where it tries to prevent third party modules running as part of the VirtualBox program. The only exceptions are those which are covered by valid trust certificates. This topic discusses problems with this feature.

Your problem, or so it appears from the log, is that your host's certificates database has been corrupted, leading certification checks to fail for all modules, even those belonging to the host OS. The line "kernel32.dll [lacks WinVerifyTrust]" is a good example.

How to fix it? I have no idea. That's a Windows support question, so you'd have to ask Microsoft, or ask on a Windows forum.

Tried removing KB3045999 on Windows 7 host, but it did not fix the issue.

If anyone finds a solution to the corrupted host certificate database, please post it to the thread.
