I won't be using that snapshot during this, right? So I'm going to cut/paste it off C drive for now (for more space)

Moving a bunch of files off my C drive .....19 minutes remaining for copy to be completed...
then I will run the CLONE VDI on the original vmdk base file (VM hard drive)....
(I hope this works....)

I gave you instructions in an earlier message on what to do next.

DO I have to 'remove' the previous guest machine that's listed (and broken) there now? Then create the new one?

I really believe I covered that already, in fact I gave you step by step instructions including that point. Read and follow the previous 3-step instructions carefully, you'll be fine. What's the worst that could happen? It's not like you only get one chance.

Thank you mpack!!!
I'm UP and running (whew)....all day nightmare.
Thank you for your patience.
I will go thru now and delete the bad drive file (to free up space), and make some copies of logs, xml files, etc. that are working properly now.
Have a nice evening,
Karen

Good. Thanks for reporting back.
If this VM is important, as I assume it is, then I suggest that you start making regular backups. I myself have several levels of backups: I make quick "just before I do something risky" backups to a second local drive in the same PC. Long term backups I do to an NTFS formatted USB flash drive. Of course, as mentioned, you have to remember to eject the drive before unplugging it - in fact I eject the drive as a matter of course when the drive integrity is very important.
Oh - and try to avoid snapshots in future. I really hate that the feature even exists. Never make the mistake of confusing snapshots with backups, in fact they're a kind of anti-backup, in that they actually increase the risk of data loss.

Yes that's what I did first thing this morning....backups! backups! backups!
(NO MORE SNAPSHOTTING EITHER)
Thanks again,
Karen

Hi,
I realize we're in the year 2021 and this post is dated 7yrs. ago, but maybe you could save me some time if you come back to this post? If I start a new machine I will be able to correct? And how do I avoid this from happening again? It sounds like taking a snapshot is what made it happen? I am on Mac OS High Sierra (Host) and Win.10 (Guest).
Thanks,
Nick Is Not My Name

Sorry, but this is the "Windows Hosts" forum, not "Mac Hosts". Your discussion would be off topic even if it wasn't also posting into a 7 year old "solved" discussion.
I suggest that you start your own topic and describe your problem properly. I'm going to lock this topic.
