The install fails with the message in image #1 below (including with anti-virus software disabled).

Trying to run it results in the message shown in image #2 below.

I've Googled and looked around the forum and found nothing applicable.
Any ideas?

PS: A previous install required setting XP compatibility mode; no effect this time...
PPS: Windows SFC scan says all system files are AOK.
PPS: This happens even with anti-virus software DISABLED...

No, I'm sorry, but you haven't, or you haven't searched hard enough. It's the sticky one at the top of this forum.

As noted twice in my post, this occurs with anti-virus disabled, and yes, I read the sticky-note at the top of this forum. I've switched to VMware, which installed and worked without problem.

For the second time that I answer, no, you did NOT read the sticky at the top of this forum. It says in bold red letters.

It's not just antivirus.
