FWIW and in case it helps anyone else, I was experiencing exactly the described problem (see attached screenshot) on my machines using version 4.3.14 in combination with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1. As soon as I installed the beta 4.3.15 and latest extensions pack I was able to work just fine with my VMs again without making any changes to SEP application control (as the error message indicated). Thanks for providing this fix.

JayEm wrote:Ok, i've researched the problem and found the solution.

It is caused by the following entry in the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers]
"C:\\Program Files\\Oracle\\VirtualBox\\VirtualBox.exe"="DISABLEUSERCALLBACKEXCEPTION"

Delete this entry, and everything works as expected.
michaln wrote:The DISABLEUSERCALLBACKEXCEPTION registry key has nothing to do with AV software, it's part of a Windows feature. It is currently unknown why some systems have the key set and others don't.
That key is set if Windows asked the user "If this program is installed correctly" (can't post images yet; just google at "this program is installed correctly" to view an image)
Deleting this key solves the "Failed to verify process integrity" problem.
My machine does not have 'Layers' entry in the registry, but fails to install 4.3.14 & 4.3.15. So we may be facing different issues.

I just installed the latest build (4.3.15) and it seems to resolve the issue of not starting the VM. I do get an error with the USB 2.0 not working. If I disable (as suggested) I can get the VM to work fine.
I am a bit concerned with updating the guest additions (I assume that this is were the drives are) as these are test builds and I am using psuedo-production VMs.

Windows 7 Pro x64 with AVG.

The current drivers would be 4.3.12 and I have never seen this issue when upgrading before (of course I have not see the VMs not start before either).
I guess there is no extensionPak yet (I found the .iso in the release) and trying to install the 4.3.12 or 4.3.14 does not work (had to try anyway).

The latest beta 4.3.15.95286 works with Symantec 12.1 Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit. Thanks a lot!

FWIW, for me the problem wasn't anti-virus and there was no layers registry entry. Going back to version 4.3.12 worked for me. The peculiar thing, though, is that if I enabled Windows Hyper-V, Virtualbox 4.3.14 started working again, but only for 32 bit guests. I'm on a Surface Pro 3, running WIndows 8.1 Pro

My issues started when I tried to install CentOs 7 in Oracle VirtualBox(4.3.12) on a Windows 7 x64 host.

4.3.12 does not support CentOs 7 so you must upgrade.
I loaded 4.3.14 from the Oracle site and installed it.

First I noticed that the directory structure had changed (Oracle VM/VirtualBox instead of Oracle/VirtualBox)
This broke all the GuestAdditionsCD connections.

Do not use 4.3.14, this release does not work.
It will install, but it fails to start any VM (as you can see in this thread).

look for the test release of 4.3.15
The link is on this site:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=62615

Here is how to fix the issues for both VirtualBox and CentOs 7:

Or go directly to:
https://www.virtualbox.org/download/tes ... 86-Win.exe

Once installed - copy the GuestAdditions .iso from Oracle VM/VirtualBox to Oracle/VirtualBox.
This will fix the links.

Next Install (double click) the 4.3.14 extensionPak. (I had to start with VirtualBox.exe - as the link seems to be broken).
Virtualbox should now be OK and the VMs should run.

Next load the dkms for release 7 (release 6 did not work).

sudo rpm -Uvh http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/be ... noarch.rpm
sudo yum install dkms

sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
cd /media/cdrom/
sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

I have tested 4.3.15 on the following:
Windows 8 pro (x32 and x64)
openSUSE 13.1
Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 (desktop and server)
Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012
CentOs 6.5 and 7
Oracle Linux 6 and 7

I had a small issue with Fedora 20, while it works, it would not shut down properly.
So I had to abort after the power down message - no issue restarting after this.

I was experiencing the same errors as others with the ver 4.3.14. However, after installing the Update to version VirtualBox 4.3.15 (build 95286) as instructed at the start of this topic, all seems fine so far. :) Plus the Extension pack Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.3.14-95030.vbox-extpack seems to work just fine. :D

Thank you to everyone involved in keeping Virtual Box updated and secure. I don't know what further work needs to be done because of this problem but It might be a good idea to make the 4.3.15 (build 95286) available on the download page so people can find it easier.

For the record I use:
Windows 7 - 64bit and the Free version of AVG antivirus 2014 version.

Hello VirtualBox Engineers,

I am using Windows 8.1, with Windows Defender and Windows Firewall only.

I tried your latest test build 4.3.15. Everything was working fine until I installed the Guest Additions. I rebooted the Guest OS (Ubuntu Trusty 14.04) and after I log into the OS, the follow error appears which forces it to close VirtualBox:

Would it be possible to use 4.3.15 without installing the guest additions?

I haven't seen a similar error to mine, but apologies if there are any similar error posted already.

Thanks.

I am on windows 8.1 with SEP 12.1.4013.
I installed the new update VirtualBox-4.3.15-95286-Win. It starts up the Virtual box. But I cannot start any VMs.
I tried disabling the Application and device control option. I get the same error.
I tried stopping the SEP. I still get the same error.
Now I am a bit confused with the error message.
Could someone help?
