64 bit OS, but I couldn't find 64 bit in virtualbox
64 bit OS, but I couldn't find 64 bit in virtualbox
I have an operation system: Window Server 2008 R 64 bit.
And I installed the latest version of virtualbox - 4.3.12 r93733.
When I started to create a new virtual machine I couldn't find any Operations System with 64 bit. (only 32 bit).
Can anybody help me with this problem?

Enable VT-x in your BIOS and/or remove any program that could use it (Hyper-V is a common offender)

Re: 64 bit OS, but I couldn't find 64 bit in virtualbox
what is Vt-X?
I am having the same issue, and virtualization is enabled in my Bios.
I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit on an Asus Z78-K MB with 16 GB ram

make sure Hyper-V is disabled in Windows features. And make sure you shutdown after changing any BIOS settings, not just a restart.peagsis wrote:what is Vt-X?

Re: 64 bit OS, but I couldn't find 64 bit in virtualbox
I don't believe I have Hyper-V, as it is not listed as a feature in windows 8.1
not seeing it listed to be added or removed in my windows 8.1

Hyper-V is NOT listed in windows
and a shut down and restart did nothing to fix the probelm

look here... http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/42 ... s-8-a.html
if you don't actually have Hyper-V you may not have VT-x either.

intel VT-X is supported in the Asus BIOS!!
Virtualization is enabled in Bios
Hyper-V is not listed as an existing feature of my windows 8.1 64bit!!
the same VB box version works on my laptop with windows 8.1 and 16 GB of ram!

Re: 64 bit OS, but I couldn't find 64 bit in virtualbox
Well it works on mine too, but that doesn't explain why it doesn't work in a particular instance.
This is really not a VirtualBox issue although it might appear to you that it is. It is basically an issue with the hardware and BIOS. VirtualBox will happily use VT-x if it can see it (as you know from other instances). Exactly why it doesn't work here is something you will have to work out for yourself. Nobody else is likely to have exactly the same hardware setup to do the testing for you.

I had trouble getting it to install on my laptop; which is a dual core i-3 with 16GB ram on windows 8.1
and the software will NOT load on my desktop;
running ASUS MB Z787-k, 16 Gb ram, and quad core i-5 on windows 8.1

Re: 64 bit OS, but I couldn't find 64 bit in virtualbox
it is generic CPU; 4670B quad core i-5
Unless it were some extreme version, I don't see how it matters what i-5 it is?

Re: 64 bit OS, but I couldn't find 64 bit in virtualbox
why it matters is, even though you can enable VT-x in your BIOS, the CPU itself may not support it. Not all i5s did.peagsis wrote:it is generic CPU; 4670B quad core i-5
