Join external PC into Virtual Domain

Post by dean0 »

Hi all, I have a domain of 3 servers (Win 2008 R2) setup in my VBox environment.
Each have 2 network adapters (INternal fixed IP and Bridged DHCP for Internet access).
I would like to have a physical machine (WinXP) on the host network join the virtual domain.
The host network is not a domain.
I have looked at trust relationships and also considered setting up a VPN server within the domain.
What is the easiest way to achieve this?

Any help greatly appreciated.

If you have a bridge connection, configure the host to use your domain controller(s) IPs as DNS, and you should be able to join.
Bridge means your servers are directly on the same network as the host, so think of your DCs as physical computers sitting next to yours.

Does this only work with static settings for the bridge or will it work with DHCP? Thank you...

That depends on where the DHCP server is and what config it hands out. Normally a physical machine on a LAN would use the DHCP server on the LAN, and that certainly would not work for the domain user. If there was no DHCP server on the physical LAN and DHCP was running on the domain, it would probably work.
