Failure to save state after aborting host Windows shutdown

Post by DJ Doena »

OK, here's the scenario:

I have VM open and running.

Host System: Windows 8 64bit, Virtual Box 4.2.10
Guest System: Windows XP 32bit

I start shutting down the host Windows 8 but forgot to close the VM first.

Windows 8 will block the shutdown because the VM prevents shutdown.
I abort the shutdown of the host Windows.
I try to save the state of the VM but it fails due to:

Code: Select all

Der Zustand der virtuellen Maschine konnte nicht gesichert werden.

Callee RC:RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE 0x800706BA (0x800706BA)
After a failed save attempt the guest Windows is greyed out and also can't be shut down via ACPI event either.

The only way to stop the guest machine now is to end the VM process without properly saving or shutting down the guest Windows.

You can move the machine back into a working state by selecting Machine -> Pause

I am still unable to identify a way to save the machine start after that fact though.

Is there a bug started for this?

Windows 10 host.
Debian VM
Virtual Box Versión 5.2.22 r126460 (Qt5.6.2)

Same thing, I just lost my work of days after closing my laptop, that was tunned on for many days, so it went to sleep.

Have a nice day...
