virtualbox not accepting hardisk image.

hello,

I've ram into some problems some days ago when creating a couple raid arrays on my pc.
Long story short, i was very tired and wanted to be fast. So i accidently erased my C drive.
Resulted in about 2tb of data loss and the need to reinstall my os.
With recovery software i managed to get all my important data back though...

Anyway, i recovered my vm's harddrive images and i tried to recreate them but virtualbox is not accepting these.
I'm getting the following error

Code: Select all

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine bits.

No error info.

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ProgressProxy
Interface: IProgress {c20238e4-3221-4d3f-8891-81ce92d9f913}

Is this a known problem or is this because of the recovery thing i did?

My host OS is win7 x64 vm's are all xp.
I downlaoded the latest virtualbox version today but i dont think it was the same version as i used in my previous os.

Thanks in advance

If you disconnect the VDI, does the VM start? If it does, then it has problems reading the VDI. Recovering data does not always produce 100% proper files and it would seem that a few bit of the VDI are not right, thus you get this error. I hope you didn't have anything important on it, because the VDI is pretty much useless. As a last option you can try CloneVDI (see the sticky here) to clone the VDI to a new one. Maybe that gives you something that works.
The VB version shouldn't matter, older images work just fine on newer releases.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply! Your app worked, Thanks!
I managed to create a new vm using the existing, new/copied hd and it worked.

Thanks allot!
