USB Proxy Service unavailable (w/ Windows 7 64-Bit host)

Post by ptar »

Hi,

with VB 4.0.x, I couldn't access the USB-devices on a Windows 7 64-Bit host system. Please see e.g. the bug report http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/5343 "VirtualBox USB installation issue on Win 7 64 bit host" for others describing the same problem.

Some postings and the changelog for 4.1.0 state that there were "USB: many fixes for the Windows USB host driver"

For me, it's just a more informative kind of "not-working" :(

While the list of USB-devices never changed with 4.0.x (and wasn't accessible from with a virtual system), with VB 4.1, the list of available USB devices is empty in the virtual system and changing a system in the VB manager results in an error message: "Failed to access the USB subsystem. Could not load the Host USB Proxy Service (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND). The service might not be installed on the host computer."

I remember (and can google) the problem appeared on Linux Hosts when the current user wasn't member of the vboxusers group (fixed long ago).

Since there were some confusion about OSE/PUEL (see http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=26190)
I have the ExPack 4.1. installed!
(BTW: I already remove VB + ExPack completely, reinstalled both, and tried to start it as Administrator: Nothing changed the error message)

Is there anyone a) have a solution to this problem or b) is encountering the same problem?

TIA!

cu

I have the exact same problem. No devices appear, even when there are two USB devices plugged in.

I would be happy to provide diagnostic information - just let me know what you need.

USB support has gone from working extremely slowly - prior to the separation of USB support into the extension pack - to not working at all.

I have the following hardware:
Asus M4A87TD EVO mainboard
AMD Phenom II X4 955 CPU
4 Gig Corsair XMS3 DDR3 memory
XFX 5750 Video Card
4 - SATA Hard Drives
1 - USB Hard drive

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, with updates current as of this month's update cycle.

Is this the same problem as in http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=43541 ?
Maybe the same solution helps.
