Wrong CPU speed being reported to guest O.S.

Post by placroix »

Team,

I have the latest Virtual box running on XP with XP as a guest os on it. I am trying to install a program on the guest o.s. but when the program runs its compatability test it fails to install because the processor speed comes back as .1 ghz rather than 2.8 ghz. Is there a way we can "Fake" the program out and have VB report the proper CPU speed?

Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

Which host CPU are you using? Best is if you open a bug report and attach your VBox.log file there.

Having the same trouble... any fix?

Post by sunbird »

I'm running virtual box on Gutsy x64 on a core2duo 2.2 ghz machine, but virtual box is misrecognizing my processor speed. Any fixes yet?

Did someone already open a bug on this issue? If so, can you post a link here so I can track? I searched on the public bug tracker and couldn't find anything relating to processor speed.

This is my first post on this forum, so please let me know if I should post any more information about my VB setup (it would also be helpful to tell me how to find the info since I'm a noob).

i don't know how VB detects the CPU speed, but my intel core2 will clock down the bus to lower CPU speed (and power consumption) when idle.

So when I in ubuntu (host) check the cpu speed it is stated as 2000mhz, but I have a 2300mhz cpu.

If the CPU is clocked down then VB might report a lower freq...but when the cpu is under load it will raise the freq to 2300
