Anyone try and successfully run the VB on a host which is Windows Server 2003 64-bit?
I am planning to buy a new server to run Windows Server 2003 64-bit and then install VB to have XPs.
However, for 64-bit host OS, we do not have windows server 2008 64-bit as the manual suggested, I only have the Windows Server 2003 64-bit, so I am wondering anybody here has luck installed and run it without problems.
Thanks.
From the manual......
Supported host operating systems
Currently, VirtualBox runs on the following host operating systems:
*
Windows hosts:
o
Windows XP, all service packs (32-bit)
o
Windows Server 2003 (32-bit)
o
Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit[1]).
o
Windows Server 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit)
o
Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
Anyone try VB on Windows Server 2003 (64-bit) host?

Re: Anyone try VB on Windows Server 2003 (64-bit) host?
I have been testing VB 4.04 for several days now on the following host:
Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard X64 Service Pack 2
I have had no problems that can be attributed to the 64-bit-ness of the host. However, I can find no references to support for the 64-bit editions of Win 2003 in any documentation. Before I take this configuration into production, it would be nice to know that my favorable experience is not a fluke. Can someone tell me if support for Windows Server 2003 64-bit is now intended, and just not in the documentation yet?
BTW, I briefly tried 4.1.8, had the same good experience, but had to revert to 4.04 to get StorageCraft Virtual Boot to give me a working VM.
Great product. Thanks.

Some things are just not up-to-date but this is the closest https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Guest_OSes

"Not supported" does not mean "doesn't work", it means that you use that setup at your own risk.

Thanks, Perryg. Is there a corresponding page for Host_OSs? I edited Guest -> Host and got a 404.

The host should be fine. The DEVs are really behind in updating the web wiki and the manual right now due to short staffing. The way I understand it you should have not issues with your configuration. It either works or it doesn't. Some things just don't work well in Windows for all users like USB and 3D acceleration but that is pretty much true in everything these days I guess. With all the software out there conflicts do happen and finding the right mix is the important part.
I find one thing really important. Once you get it up and running the way you want it, just remember if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Way too many people try to stay on the bleeding edge in production and that is never a good place to be.

Thanks, vbox4me2. I suspected this might be a case of documentation not being caught up, but of course I couldn't be sure. Now I know I'm not on the bleeding edge, as Perryg urged me to beware of. Many thanks to you both.
