Ubuntu 7.10 CPU 100%

Post by bellinsky »

My environment is Windows XP plus Ubuntu 7.10 under virtualBox 1.5.2

According to my search in this forum, I know that some Windows guests also have the same problem due to the sharing clipboard.

But for my case, even I disabled the Shared Clipboard in the setting page, I still got this CPU problem. One thing I notice that this problem happens after Ubuntu has established everything. Then about 2 or 3 minutes later
CPU becomes abnormal.

Is there anybody who can give me some hint at this?

In addition, I have used the .dll file patch for Window host. It does not work.

I like VirtualBox very much and try to switch from VMWare to it. But this hinders my intention.

Thanks.

I have the same problem with FreeBSD...but in my case was when compile the kernel. I don't know if this was because my kernel (6.3) but was strange the processor permanent 100% used for all time. Normaly the processor back to near 20, 30, 40 % used some times, but all time 100% isn't normal.
I have come back to vmware. :(
thanks

HI

I had the problem with WindowsXP as Host and Guest.

Have a look here: http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=2380

Eventually I installed a patch which was provided and you can find this one here: http://www.virtualbox.org/attachment/ti ... xclipb.zip

I don't know if it will fix your problem as well. Just give it a try.

Zebulon,

Many thanks.

Finally I figure out the problem. It has nothing to with virtualBox. It seems to be a inherent issue of Ubuntu 7.10.

The process that consumes such a high ratio of CPU is trackerd. By Mr. Google,

It will eventually settle itself down after it indexes everything. But if you want to disable it. System>Preferences>Indexing Preferences. Uncheck the two check boxes in the first tab. You can also go System>Preferences>Sessions and uncheck the Tracker entry."
