software-mode (no VT-x) gives BSOD on XP 64-bit host 3.0.8

Post by zsero »

I had a perfectly working Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 32-bit guest on a XP 64-bit host using 3.0.6. I was not using VT-x mode, since I read somewhere that it's a tiny bit faster this way. I just upgraded to 3.0.8 and it gives BSOD on the host! Really bad! Once I turned VT-x on, it was all OK.

This sounds like the same problem a few of us have been having.

It seems to affect 64-bit Windows (XP or Vista). The VMs work OK on 3.0.6, but the host crashes on 3.0.8. I can't run VT-x on my laptop because Sony disabled it :(

I'm not able to reproduce this here. Please post some useful information in the bug tracker ticket. VBox.log of such a session (before it crashes; just close the VM immediately) would be very helpful. Thanks.

I've just fixed the problem. People who wish to try out a test build can request one in the ticket.
