Latest version is causing massive problems!

Post by VBUserLost »

Hi.

Opened VirtualBox 2 days ago, it said there was an update. Updated it, now when I run the latest version of VirtualBox it shows error messages. If I add my USB microphone I get an error message, saying complaining about the USB, I can't remember exactly. I run VirtualBox today and got a Windows blue-screen error about IRQL!! I don't get blue screen errors on Windows, but today I got one just running VirtualBox. My computer works fine, no problems with it, it's just VirtualBox.

When I installed the update on VirtualBox, it appeared to install fine. Now I can't use VirtualBox. Where can I download the previous version?

Using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
Was running Ubuntu (32-bit) guest fine, until I updated VirtualBox.

What's going on? By the way, I did un-install and re-install VirtualBox (latest version), but it's still playing up. :!:

Mode Edit. No need for colors or extra size.

Un-install VBox by running the install again and tell it to uninstall.
Reboot the PC
re-install VBox again.
Reboot the PC.
See if it works now.

If you really, really need to revert to the previous version, check where you saved it or grab it from download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox.

Hi.

Re-installed the latest version, ran the Ubuntu guest and got a blue-screen error about IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL.

I un-installed VirtualBox, downloaded and installed the previous version of VirtualBox and now no problems at all. :D

I see other posts about problems with the latest version of VirtualBox, running on Windows Vista 64-bit host.

I'm very happy with VirtualBox and it's free. But the latest version doesn't seem to like running on Vista 64-bit.

By the way, I finally discovered why my USB microphone wasn't being detected by Ubuntu guest: any USB devices must be switched on BEFORE you start the guest Operating System.

Mod Edit: Color removed again.

I am running Windows Vista Business as host OS with Ubuntu 9.04 and others as guest OS. Since the upgrade, I have had to increase the memory on each of my virtual machines to get the same performance. The Numeral keypad on my keyboard stopped working in each guest operating system, and sound is now a garbled mess coming from the guest systems. I am pretty familiar with Virtual Machines and all of these items were working fine before the update to 3.0.8. The performance alone is very frustrating, but not being able to type numbers into my guest using the numeric keypad is painful.

As I recall, the last update I made required repairing my Linux guest OS to get it to work. I feel like the updates aren't tested enough. I would recommend that anyone wanting a reliable application to run their virtual machines in not update VirtualBox.

I have done an uninstall and reinstall with a fresh, clean boot, turned off all of the services I could. It still doesn't work. I would like to downgrade the version to the last, as I see no value in updating VirtualBox. The update removed features and other than a small bar at the bottom of the screen when in full screen mode, I haven't figured out what a full version number upgrade did for me. I think, with all due respect, this version should have been refered to as 2.6.6.1.

Can anyone tell me what the update gave me?

I'm not able to reproduce this here. Please post some useful information in the bug tracker ticket. VBox.log of such a session (before it crashes; just close the VM immediately) would be very helpful. Thanks.

I've just fixed the problem. People who wish to try out a test build can request one in the ticket.
