Sharing folders between Host and Guest - Vista and 2008

I have been trying to get network shares to be browsable from one to the other and I think I know why it fails.

The virtual network adapter on the guest is getting a 10.0.2.15 address, while my Host os is using a 192.168.0.101 address. They are both on the same subnet 255.255.255.0 but that doesn't seem to matter.

Has anyone had any luck "hard-coding" their IP addresses for the NAT adapter?

Edit:

Well, I changed the IP manually to be in the same range as my other systems and lost all network connectivity so apparently, that was NOT the solution.
Is there a way to specify what ranges the virtual adapter is assigned an address from?
