Unable to install Ubuntu 9.04 64Bit

Hi Everyone,
My Host OS Windows 7 RC 64Bit, I have installed current version of VirtualBox 2.2.2 r46594 win.amd64.
However I am trying to install Guest OS Ubuntu Linux 9.04 64 Bit.

I get the following error message:
This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.
Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

Are there any work arounds? I have made sure in BIOS I have VT-x / AMD-V selected. yet in the log it says
HWACCM: No VT-x or AMD-V CPU extension found. Reason VERR_SVM_DISABLED

How can I get this enabled?
thanks in advance

Hard to say. Some things work and some do not. Kind of what happens when you run a beta or RC as primary OS.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/faq.aspx

Please read the section Are there risks to installing the RC?

I am going to move this to the Windows Host section because it fits that category better.

Is this a problem for you below windows 7? Just as an extra thing do you have pae running? I think that's supposed to give access to hardware information of the host.

I'm having the same problem, except I'm using Windows XP x64 as my host operating system. It says that this kernel requires x86-64 processor and only an i686 processor was found.

A few things for everyone with this issue.
First, check the VirtualBox FAQ and Manual for what you need to be able to run 64 bit Guests. Next, update your BIOS. There are a few cases where you would DISABLE the Virtualization option while you select ENABLE in the BIOS.

And Win7 is not yet final, so it's quite possible that VT-x/AMD-V passthrough in the OS itself isn't working.

I'm having the same problem with a Vista x86 (32-bit) SP2 host. Ubuntu x64 won't install and gives the same error message.

And you skipped the most important part. Why quote me on the W7 part, when you have Vista. Vista != Windows 7.
