serial port on windows host with virtualbox 1.5

Post by matze_xxl »

Hi!

I have a little problem to use the virtualbox (1.5) with a serial port. In the configuration of the serial ports I have to fill in the "port path". I dont know what I have to fill in here. I want to use the physical comport "COM1" of my host system with windows xp home. I use Damn Small Linux as guest system. On the guest system I compiled minicom 2.2. Any ideas? Thanks for your support.

Serial Port Setup

Post by resanders »

I indicated the device as /dev/ttyS0 which is what I do use in Linux. That device is considered analogous to COM1. However, I've had no success using the serial port. It did not show in the device manager. Sometimes the virtual machine is faulty loading with the serial port enabled and crashes upon closing. The /dev/ttyS0 works great in Linux with the external modem attached and used for faxing.
