Hi,
I'm running VirtualBox on Windows XP Pro SP2 and I'm running a Linux Live CD into VirtualBox as a guest OS.
All is working fine, except when I try to use the USB, I can enable it without any problem but when I do a right click on the USB icon in VBOX and select the device "Alcatel SpeedTouch USB modem", the host reboots with displaying any error message or blue screen and nothing appears in the logs of Windows.
Is there any fix to solve this problem or USB modems are not supported in VirtualBox ???
Thanks.
Host reboot with USB

Patience. Why don't you start by telling which VBox version you're using?
If this USB modem has special drivers in Windows, you might want to disable them to see if that makes any difference.
Also, do you get blue screens with the same procedure for e.g. usb sticks?
One more thing: if you have enabled hardware virtualization in VBox, then turn it off.

I can't say for sure, but from a live CD, it may not be able to install the drivers you need.
I'd suggest installing to a virtual disk from virtualbox using the live cd, then unmount the cd & boot from your linux from ur *.vdi file [virtual hdd].
See if that makes any difference; it's worth a shot.
