Hello
I have a windows machine and have installed 'Oracle VM for Windows' on it. I instantiate a Kali Linux VM on it.
I can ping from my 'Windows Machine' to 'Kali Linux VM'.
ping 192.168.1.246
Pinging 192.168.1.246 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.246: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.246: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
However I can't ping back from 'Kali Linux VM' to 'Windows Machine'.
ping 192.168.56.1
PING 192.168.56.1 (192.168.56.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
Any idea how to fix it?
Thanks.

Re: Ping not working (from VM Machine to Host)
Windows ignores ICMP (e.g. ping) protocol messages by default. It has good reasons for that, but Google for how to override it if you really want to.

Re: Ping not working (from VM Machine to Host)
I started having this problem today. Maybe from an update over the weekend. I enabled promiscuous mode. Allow All. There are no restrictions in this mode. A VM network adapter can see all incoming and outgoing traffic.
Not sure what other implications that will have, but it is working again for now.

Bernie, what precise problem were you having? Promiscuous mode doesn't influence ping responses.

I had a similar problem when initializing such a Kali Linux virtual machine. And it hasn't worked yet. What can I do?Bernie1981 wrote: ↑24. May 2023, 20:13 I started having this problem today. I'm going to lock this. This type of "me too" chain is never useful. Start your own topic, describe your own circumstances including VirtualBox version, and provide a zipped VM log.
