Hi All,
I had a Ubuntu VM running on Windows 11 host. A few days back I shut it down by sending shut down signal from right corner of VirtualBox UI. The machine is not booting up anymore. I tried remedies suggested on the web. Uninstalled virtualbox, cleared installation folder, registeries etc., reinstalled virtualbox, recreated the VM but the machine refuses to launch. The virtualbox log shows
VM Name: Ubuntu-20
The virtual machine 'Ubuntu-20' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1). More details may be available in 'D:\VMs\Ubuntu-20\Logs\VBoxHardening.log'.
Result Code:
E_FAIL (0X80004005)
Component:
MachineWrap
Interface:
IMachine {300763af-5d6b-46e6-aa96-273eac15538a}
Thanks for the help.
Regards,
Kashyap

Re: Windows virtualbox hardening error
Please try starting the VM one more time. If the same error happens, zip the log mentioned in the error message, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Thanks for the response. I'm unable to find how to upload the attachment. I have provided the logs in the link below.

You use the "Upload attachment" button visible when composing a message. Please do so, since few of us are willing to click on offsite links.

Re: Windows virtualbox hardening error
It looks like you may have a theme hack installed on your host PC. VirtualBox hardening does not like hacked DLLs.
Third party theme packages are available which don't need to hack system DLLs.
Alternatively, add VirtualBox as an exception.

Re: Windows virtualbox hardening error
Well, this is a new laptop and I don't understand the theme hack thing. I don't use any theme as such.
How do I add virtualbox as an exception and where?

Re: Windows virtualbox hardening error
Sorry, I don't use theme hacks myself so can't offer usage tutorials on them.
Also the suggested explanation could be wrong. See FAQ: Diagnosing VirtualBox Hardening Issues for other tips.
