Re: VMs take a long time to start on VB 7
Your computer is apparently owned by Avast and Malwarebytes. For a test, uninstall both, reboot your host and see if the issue persists.
Re: VMs take a long time to start on VB 7
I confirm, I have the same issue.
Windows 11 host, Hyper-V is turned off.
Windows guest was created and used on v6.1.38.
Last week I''ve started the guest: it was no delay on start.
Then I stopped the guest and upgraded to v7.0. without reboot.
And after that all VMs have 10 second delay on start.

so, your proposed solution is to get rid of my AV? it's like telling someone to go to a hooker and not use a condom...fth0 wrote:Your computer is apparently owned by Avast and Malwarebytes. For a test, uninstall both, reboot your host and see if the issue persists.
Anyway, I have another PC here, running Win10 22H2, no AV at all (defender disabled and no other AV installed) and I see the same issue. It had VB6.1.40 (which has the same issue, but the delay is shorter), upgraded to VB7.0.0 and I see the long delay starting VMs.
Oh, BTW, don't even get me started with VB7.0.2, it's even worse than 7.0.0, not only it features the long delay starting VMs, but it also won't run Windows XP guests (that were running fine on VB6.1.x and even 7.0.0).

No. Please re-read what I wrote.jvidal wrote:your proposed solution is to get rid of my AV?
Of course, you don't need to test it, if your other PC is a valid counterexample (or if you don't want to).
Re: VMs take a long time to start on VB 7
It's pointless, since I can reproduce the problem on another machine with no AV or security solution/antispyware installed.
Re: VMs take a long time to start on VB 7
VB 7.0.4 is out and I'm still seeing this...

Actually no, the initial proposal is that you do a simple test. But if the test comes out the way we expect then the proposal would be that you don't buy your condoms from some dodgy side-street hustler.jvidal wrote: so, your proposed solution is to get rid of my AV? it's like telling someone to go to a hooker and not use a condom...
Re: VMs take a long time to start on VB 7
Well if you read my reply, you'd learn that I also tested it on another machine, with no AV/antispyware or security solution installed, and the result is the same: there's a long delay between the moment you press the button to start a VM and the moment the VM window finally appears.

If you want us to have a look, provide a zip file containing a VBoxHardening.log and a VBox.log file from a complete VM run (*) on your other host.
(*) Start the VM from the power-off state, let it run for ~5 minutes and shut it down from within the guest OS.

Re: VMs take a long time to start on VB 7
Only a full test on the host having the problem can tell what might work on that PC. (Example: Virtualbox is suppose to run under Hyper-V, but it doesn't always work on every host PC.)jvidal wrote:I also tested it on another machine
The test was to temporarily uninstall AV, try Virtualbox, and report what happens.
Sometimes uninstalling AV knocks things loose, and reinstalling AV later still works.

I already did that.fth0 wrote:If you want us to have a look, provide a zip file containing a VBoxHardening.log and a VBox.log file from a complete VM run (*) on your other host.

Where? I only see one zip with one of the requested logs.jvidal wrote: I already did that.

@jvidal:
And just in case that you misunderstood the word "other", I'm talking about your "another machine, with no AV/antispyware or security solution installed".

Re: VMs take a long time to start on VB 7
So, here are the Logs from the machine with NO AV/Antispyware/Antimalware of any kind. Windows defender is disabled via group policy.
In this machine, VM windows take 10 seconds only to appear, after pressing the "start VM" button. Then, there's an additional few seconds delay when the progress bar "starting VM" appears...
