After updating to virtualbox 6.1.36 linux guest not taking any input

Post by OneOneOne »

As the title, I've updated my (working before the update) linux guest VM on my windows 10 host. After the update and after installing the latest extension pack when the VM load to the login screen of (kali) linux it doesn't accept any command from keyboard and mouse. Hyper-v is diasbled on the host (I've read that it could be a problem).

Thanks.

Please zip logs and attach the zip locally. I for one am not going to sign up to any adware site to get access to your log.

Your allocation of resources to this VM is not well balanced. You have given almost everything over to guest apps, leaving very little for VirtualBox itself and the host OS.
00:00:02.950387 Host RAM: 16318MB (15.9GB) total, 11797MB (11.5GB) available
00:00:04.231931 CPUM: Physical host cores: 6
...
00:00:03.152071 RamSize <integer> = 0x000000029a000000 (11 173 625 856, 10 656 MB, 10.4 GB)
00:00:03.152261 VRamSize <integer> = 0x0000000008000000 (134 217 728, 128 MB)
00:00:03.152069 NumCPUs <integer> = 0x0000000000000005 (5)
I would reduce the RAM to 6GB and the CPU cores to 2.

Otherwise I don't see a lot wrong.

I just tried setting things in a more balanced way. The problem persist.
If there's the need for more diagnostics let me know.
Thanks.

As I said, I did not see much else wrong. We shall have to wait for input from a Kali Linux expert.

I didn't notice any issue in the kali linux-2022-08-01-12-08-26.log file, with the exception of the outdated VirtualBox Guest Additions 6.1.12 being installed. At the login prompt, switch to a text terminal (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F1), try to login and uninstall the VirtualBox Guest Additions.
