[Solved] Help for newbie please... driver is probably stuck. error

Post by whoknows »

Hi guys, I have been using virtualbox for a couple years now and it has been great!
This is the first time I have had any problems using it.
I believe after a windows update I have been unable to start Virtualbox .

I believe it is an issue with the driver, when I went to search the location of the vb driver it appears to be missing ?
please see attach screen shots.

I would really appreciate any simple help .

Big thankyou in advance .

Kind regards

It isn't unknown to have to reinstall VirtualBox after a Windows feature update. You should try that now.

If you continue to have problems then pick your main VM and provide a VM log for it. This log will include info about the host... or we can just jump ahead and assume that the update has enabled Hyper-v. In which case see HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active).

Big thank you Mpack...
Please forgive my naivety, should back up my VM (xp) first before uninstalling virtulbox ?
I really would like to preserve the state of that machine.

If there is a need to backup my VM is there info to help me ?

kind regards

Do you expect Word documents to be deleted when Office gets an update?

Answer no: VMs will still be there after a VirtualBox update, and since you aren't even changing versions there is no possibility of version changes impacting anything.

Note however that reinstallation is just an experiment. Worst case is that it will not help, in which case we will try something else that I already referenced above.
