VB won't start after deleting VB it was cloned from

Post by CactusWren »

I deleted the VB of which this was a clone to open some space on the SDD. There was a message that it would delete files not being used by other machines (but obviously the cloned machine uses those files?).

Now it won't start. I tried to open an older snapshot and this is the message:

Code: Select all

Failed to allocate 134217728 bytes of VRAM (VERR_UNRESOLVED_ERROR).

Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:
ConsoleWrap
Interface:
IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
It seems something goes wrong basically every day for me using VirtualBox.

Well, I decided to delete all my VB machines on my new SDD, which had been exhibiting some suspicious behavior. It seems likely that this was the problem. I made a new VB on my C drive and everything has been working perfectly.

Glad you're up and running. Yes a host disk that stores the VM and also has problems might lead to trouble in the VM. Also, watch out for if you are making linked clones. These are dependent on the base VM. Full clones are completely stand-alone, unless manual manipulation occurs after the clone to link the VMs, such as mounting one VM's disk in the other VM.
