How to add HDD to existing Vm

Post by max22941 »

Went to settings with Vm(W11 on Win10 Host) all storage items grayed out. Shut the machine down and went into settings/storage and again all items grayed out.
How do I add Win10 HDD to the Vm?

Thank you.

This may happen if the VM was save-stated instead of a full shutdown. Start the VM again, then shut down with the Start menu shutdown button.

adding hdd to vm

Post by max22941 »

Created Vm with 100gb hdd. Attempts to add additional after shutdown only provides grayed out selections.

I'm attempting to use HDD to access folders/files on the partitions and reading manual doesn't seem to provide clear info to do this.

Help will be appreciated.

I may misunderstand the use of Vm hdd attachment.

Are all of the folder/files available to the Vm as they are on the host Os?

It appears that when I create/attach second Hdd in settings it is empty.

No. The VM's disks are not the host PC's disks. The VM and the host are two separate computers.

If you want to see the host PC's files inside the VM, then make shared folders inside the host OS. The VM OS should be able to see the shared folders over the VM's Bridged or Host-Only network.
