USB drive not visible in guest

Post by ShimaOnari »

I'm using Virtual Box 6.1.30 with the extension pack of the same version.
The host is Windows 10.
I've created a virtual machine and installed Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS. After the complete installation of ubuntu I installed the guest extensions.
After the restart of the virtual machine I connected an USB drive.
In the window for USB filters the click on "add usb filter" shows a list with "no devices available".

Now I post the output of step 8 from the topic "USB basics and troubleshooting"

Code: Select all

f:\>cd VirtualBox

f:\VirtualBox>VBoxManage -version
6.1.30r148432

I see the error "Could not load Host USB Proxy Service" in the file "VBoxSVC.log", but I don't know, how can I fix that. A search for the problem shows no solutions.

Looks like the rest of the error message has identified the problem.

Please go to your C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder and look for .sys files starting with 'Vbox'. For a full Virtualbox installation there should be 5 files, with 2 of them mentioning USB in their names. If you don't see these two of the 5, the run of your Virtualbox installer either had the USB option turned off or an aggressive host OS AV or Group Policy or driver enforcement setting blocked install and registering of these .sys files.

I've logged in with an administrator account on Windows 10 and uninstalled Virtual Box and the extension. Also cleaned up the hard disk.
After reinstalling Virtual Box 6.1.30 and the extension pack I started the Ubuntu virtual machine and see all USB devices.

Thank you, Scott!
