Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
Please provide a new VBox.log file. I'm interested in seeing what else has changed, especially regarding timing.
Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
So seems to be the Preview setting keeping the VM alive
Its can be random when the VM Manager is closed for the guest to freeze any where from 2mins to 2hours if not more but if you open the VM Manager it kick it alive.

Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
In win 11-2021-11-21-08-52-30.log, there are also signs of unresponsiveness, only shorter (103 + 216 seconds). But I noticed that the Paravirtualization Interface was effectively set to None in all log files. What happens if you explicitly set it to "Hyper-V"? Note that this setting has nothing to do with using the Hyper-V hypervisor or not.
Other than that, you didn't provide feedback on #p509305 and #p509326 (yet).

that was when I didn't have the VM Manager open then when I opened it it unfreeze the guest.fth0 wrote:In win 11-2021-11-21-08-52-30.log, there are also signs of unresponsiveness, only shorter (103 + 216 seconds)..

The VM guest then shows Hyper-V for Paravirtualization interfacefth0 wrote:What happens if you explicitly set it to "Hyper-V"? Note that this setting has nothing to do with using the Hyper-V hypervisor or not.

Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
So far for the obvious part. Ok, let me rephrase my question:PeterUK wrote:The VM guest then shows Hyper-V for Paravirtualization interface
The 10.5. Paravirtualization Providers (especially Hyper-V) influence the general VM timing. Do the guest freezes still occur when the Paravirtualization Interface is explicitly and effectively set to Hyper-V before starting the VM? Please provide a VBox.log file from such a VM run.
Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
Yes it freezes with Hyper-V and VM Manager not open. I also found that moving the guest window unfreezes it.

Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
In win 11-2021-11-21-16-09-00.log, the same signs of unresponsiveness are present. Since the paravirtualization interface seems to have no influence, I'd suspect the problem on the host side, which includes Windows 11, the Intel CPU and the Hyper-V hypervisor. I don't intend to repeat my other requests again. Please let us know what you intend to do next.
Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
Its turns out I installed ALL of Hyper-V and don't need the Hyper-V Hypervisor for my VLANs to work and now the VM is running:
Execution engine VT-x/AMD-V
This likely is the fix
Thanks for doing the troubleshooting

You're welcome, and thanks for reporting back.
Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
Suspect that keeping the VM selector UI running has some indirect influence on power management. Not that I have any idea why anything would go wrong in the NEM (i.e. VirtualBox using 'Windows Hypervisor Platform' a.k.a. Hyper-V) case... needs debugging most likely once we have such a system in our hands.
Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
So what was the exact solution here? I've just migrated to Windows 11 host on 12th gen Intel and those freezes (of Linux guests) are killing me. They happened without Hyper V installed and after.
Re: Random guest freeze on win 11 12th gen Intel
In my case I had to turn off the "Core Isolation" security function which sort of enabled Hyper-V despite it being not installed as a function. That allowed the machines to run again on VT-x and no longer freeze randomly.
