Select start-up disk
Select start-up disk
I am attempting to set up a Linux virtual machine for a project. When I downloaded the VM and attempt to set it up I get a popup saying to select a start-up disk. When i click the file button to select a disk the list is blank (ive tried to watch videos on this issue and other people had options to choose from). Ive tried to add add and create space, but I am lost and need help. I have attached images of the issues.
Thank you
Thank you

Re: Select start-up disk
Looks like the pictures are missing. Images should be cropped and resized to get under the forum's 128kB size limit yet remain readable, then posted using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. This is possible from first day first post.
Re: Select start-up disk

Re: Select start-up disk
Thanks for the image. What happens if you click the "Add" button in the "Optical Disk Selector"?
(BTW, cropping the image to the pertinent parts will help in its readability vs the forum file size limit)

Re: Select start-up disk
What happens is that i get a blank list. I then go on to click create file and I have no idea what to do there.

Re: Select start-up disk
Clicking 'Add' in your first screenshot above should take you to your host OS's browse-for-a-file Window, where you can browse your host OS for the ISO you have downloaded.
Clicking 'Create' opens the "VISO Creator" you display in your second screenshot, which is more complicated and is not where you need to be now.
Please post a screenshot of what you get when you click 'Add'.

Yes. Virtualbox does not provide the OS's that get installed in the VMs, only the 'hardware' the OS gets installed on. You have to get those ISO's. Web-search for your desired Linux flavor.1462005 wrote:I need a linux ISO file

Re: Select start-up disk
For the "failed to open a session" error, open the Details triangle, then click Copy, and paste the error message here.
And we still need to know this:

And you need to download an ISO from a Linux website. We don't provide instructions how to do this.scottgus1 wrote:Clicking 'Add' in your first screenshot above should take you to your host OS's browse-for-a-file Window, where you can browse your host OS for the ISO you have downloaded.

Not in a hypervisor partition (HVP=0) (VERR_NEM_NOT_AVAILABLE).
VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for all CPU modes (VERR_VMX_MSR_ALL_VMX_DISABLED).
Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:
ConsoleWrap
Interface:
IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
The image is where i am taken when i click the add button i then have tried the top 2 files "linux mint" and "ubuntu" which are the virtual box images i downloaded from the web. the second image shows what happens when i chose a file and it places them under "not attached"

Re: Select start-up disk
This error is proably stopping any VM on your PC. See everything in I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests1462005 wrote:Not in a hypervisor partition (HVP=0) (VERR_NEM_NOT_AVAILABLE).
VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for all CPU modes (VERR_VMX_MSR_ALL_VMX_DISABLED).
After you get the above fixed, the pictures you posted show the correct place to add ISOs to your ISO list, and you then pick one for your VM's CD drive to boot from.
