hi am having this error when adding virtual box

You are not adding "virtual box". You have added a .vdi file, which is a virtual disk. You have started the vm to get that message.
The message is quite clear to me. The .vdi file you added is not acceptable. Where did it come from? What are you trying to attach it to?
