troubleshooting USB connection

Post by BCosell »

I did steps 1-8. One interesting thing is that when I tried connecting my USB drive [before I did the troubleshooting steps] I right clicked on the USB icon at the bottom and it *saw* my JSB drive. BUT: when I selected it, it _vanished -- not visible on either my host system or my guest system.

Here are the text troubleshooting results:

Before I loaded the proper extension pack I didn't have the 2.0 and 3.0 options at all.

The USB 2.0 and 3.0 implementations are part of the VirtualBox Extension Pack, so that is naturally expected.

Most settings are usually grayed out while the VM is running. Reboot your host (without automatically starting the VM after boot), and see if you can then change the VM configuration.

That did it! I started the VM manager , opened the 'settings' and now, as you suggested, the USB settings weren't grayed outl. I checked the 3.0 and started the VM, inserted USB drive, selected it and there it was in explorer. YAY. Thanks...
